Hello, I am the manager of a public preserve in Mendocino California that is also the site of a turn-of-the century working lighthouse and nearly complete light station compound. For about 4 years I have been collecting images of the property from past residents and their children, historical societies, the National Archives, Coast Guard archives, etc. In addition, we have a growing mass of contemporary images. These are variously color slides, black and white and/or color prints, some with negatives some without, some 4x5 some 35 mm, a few on CD, etc.

We use selections from the collection regularly for newsletters, web page, PR, annual reports, and historical structures reports. Currently we have no cataloging system and it is driving me and the rest of the staff nuts. Our work load is intense with the educational programs and restoration effort, things get mislaid and there is no record of where an image was used, or who has it. >
>Therefore. . . I am looking for three things: 1. A recommendation
to a simple boiler-plate system for maintaining this kind of archive (book? computer program?) 2. An individual to consult on system design and possibly hire to do some or all of the work (Do you have any Mendocino County members or perhaps an SF bay area semi-retired member with a particular interest in history?) 3. A source of funding (Are there small chunks of money available for this type of project?) >
>Needless to say, as a non-profit with multiple programs and historic
buildings disintegrating around us, we don't have a lot of money lying around. BUT, we do have a barterable 3 bedroom house on 300 acres of pristine coastal bluff to at least entice the right individual to initiate the discussion. >
Any ideas? Thanks, Lisa Weg mailto:lweg@igc.apc.org >
