> Te Waimano was conceived and written by Malcolm McKinnon, New Zealand historian and editor of the New Zealand Historic
l Atlas, which was published in 1997. Malcolm explored the collections of the Turnbull Library and brought an individual
and interpretive approach to the creation of this site. Taking the end of the millennium as a starting point, he sampled
the collections by date, selecting material at 50-year intervals back from the year 2000. He has assembled a fascinating
collection of items in all formats - pictures, text, sound and video. They invite the user to make all kinds of exciting
connections and discoveries, to assess the 'stories', that historians have told, and construct their own stories about l
fe in New Zealand.
