Tim: I hope you don't expect to get something for nothing. I don't know what logarithms have to do with it but it sounds like you are looking for a program which will interpolate ("average") between pixels to generate a zoom. While it might look OK for one level of zoom, there is no way to get "an actual zoom" without having the actual pixels available, which means they have actually been scanned and are lurking around in the background somewhere.
