We have been research x-ray scanners for some time. Wishing to run it on
Macintosh and with Photoshop as our scan output program for sizing and
labeling The larger x-rays (14"x17") don't fit on many scanners with back
lit adapters. We are running into some problems with meeting out resolution
capabilities. Presently we may be looking at the Vision Ten, V-Scan IV,
Radiographic Scanner. ~$15,000. The one that lost our first bid was
Vidar/Truvel x-ray scanner ~$11,500. These are serious large format
(14"x17") radiographic scans. As Radiology Depts are purchasing x-ray
equipment which outputs digitally, scanners will be used for old film
scans. For some reason we could not find any Photo labs who are doing
digital scans. Are artdepartment has been doing gel film scans on a flatbed
scan, we are looking to get a add on back lit scanning device. Gels are
small so it should work fine. For smaller scans I have seen some nice work
on a HP scanner. On smaller scanners it is usually a give and take, larger
beds (9 x 14) do not give as good grey scale values as smaller beds (8 1/2
x 11).
