I saw a demo of a system that Case Western Reserve Library is developing with IBM using the "watermark" concept. (boy, there's a case where the name is sure a long way from the original!). You could try contacting James Barker at the CWRU Digital Media Institute--he gave the presentation to the Assoc of American Publishers and was lively, open and informative.
