One should always use silver-halide film, but lifespan is a function of the film stock AND THE PROCESSING. Processing the film to preservation standards is a very complicated set of strict procedures, and few COM producers are aware of the need for adhering to these standards. There are other preservation issues with COM, not the least of which is the resolution problem (Quality Index), which does not meet preservation standards.
