I recently extracted irregularly shapd objects from a larger image in order to create icons for the submenus of our community network. In order to prepare the images for the web I created a small rectangular bit mapped document with a solid background color and a border. I saved this under a generic name as a paint program (you could do this in Photoshop or other program.. I returned to the source picture and selected the :) "lasso tool" to cut out the irregular image. I then pasted the image onto the small rectangle and cleaned it up a bit, typed in the label, and saved as a gif. for insertion into the html document. If you want an invisible background, you could paste onto a rectangle that would blend with your background..white, I imagine, and with no borders. It would then appear as an irregular object, but I don't know if you would like the design.
