Exciting activities are taking place within the Visual Resources Association! Below are updates on some of the projects.VRA on the World Wide Web Check out the Visual Resources Association WWW site at http://www.vra.oberlin.edu.
The VRA homepage and its links were developed by VRA President- Elect Joseph Romano at Oberlin College. Remember that by clicking on the blue type you will be linked to additional information. Joe has included a VRA Gallery of art work from recent VRA Bulletin covers (used with permission from the artists) and has included information about VRA Committees and their activities, Regional Chapters, Membership, Constitution and Bylaws, and links to information on copyright issues and liaisons and affiliations with other organizations. Be sure to check the "What's New" link for information about the next VRA annual conference to be held in Boston, Feb. 21-24, 1996.
Liaisons with Other Organizations VRA has been invited to send a representative to two important meetings taking place in Washington, DC April 10-11. The Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) has invited VRA to its 2-day meeting and Eleanor Fink, Director of the Getty Art History Information Program (AHIP), has invited VRA to be present at the informational meeting hosted by the National Initiative for Networked Cultural Heritage (NINCH) April 10 to bring together organizations interested in providing the broadest access to cultural heritage information and to advocate the inclusion of representatives from the arts and humanities in policy-making decisions concerning the National Information Infrastructure (NII). Dustin Wees, Chair of the Visual Resources Association Data Standards Committee, will be representing VRA at these two important meetings. Dustin will be reporting information to the VRA Executive Board and we will be updating the membership on these issues.
Call for Nominations for VRA Distinguished Service Award VRA annually honors one or more individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of visual resources. Eleanor Fink, Director of the Getty Art History Information Program (AHIP), was awarded the 1995 VRA Distinguished Service Award at the annual conference in San Antonio, TX in January, 1995.
Nominations are now being requested for the 1996 award. Nominees should have achieved a level of distinction within the field through leadership, research, or the development and management of a particular visual resources collection. Someone could also be considered who has shown outstanding innovation, participation, or service to the profession.
Although the nominations come from VRA members, the nominees need not be necessarily from the VRA membership. However, all nominations must be accompanied by a paragraph explaining why the nomination was offered as well as supporting evidence which may include a list of credentials, a bibliography of publications, or letters of recommendation.
Please send your nominations for the 1996 VRA Distinguished Service Award by May 15 to Joseph Romano, Department of Art, Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio 44074.
Call for Nominations to CAA Committee on Electronic Imaging As noted in an earlier message, the College Art Association has issued a call for nominations for several committees. The CAA Committee on Electronic Imaging seems to be a committee on which some of our VRA membership could be of service and act as a liaison to CAA. If you are interested in being nominated for this commitee or other CAA committees, please contact Sandra C. Walker, VRA President, mailto:scwalker@utkvx.utk.edu, as soon as possible. Committee nominations are due by April 15. To self-nominate, write: Committee Nominations, CAA, 275 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10001. All committee candidates must be CAA members in good standing and the nominations should include a brief statement outlining the individual's qualifications and experience and a resume.
