Here's an update to something that was discussed on IMAGELIB nearly two
years ago.

Princeton University used a product from a library automation marketplace vendor called VTLS to create a searchable, online public access catalog to about 6 million catalog cards housed in its many branch libraries. The product is called the InfoStation and it's essentially a Multimedia OPAC. Princeton probably saved about 817 years going this route rather than doing a standard retrospective conversion program.

Up until recently, the system was available on campus. Eileen Henthorne at Princeton has sent in the URL for the database. You can take a look at http://imagecat1.princeton.edu/ECC.

If others of you out there who are running a formerly stand-alone system want to send me the URL, I'll add it to the Clearinghouse entry. That way people looking in the Clearinghouse via WWW can just click from the entry and go to the site.
