I own a now-discontinued Microtek ScanMaker E6. Perhaps not the ideal
machine for professional work, but it is quite serviceable. I was happy to
see that Microtek has a driver for this device so it can be used on Windows
2000 platforms. How unhappy was the discovery, then, that the Windows 2000
driver removes nearly all the functionality that was part of earlier
drivers, turning this machine into a very sorry scanner. For example,
de-screening is no longer an option, color controls are gone, as well is
the ability to scan negatives, and the draft view pane is too small to use,
to name a few of the indiginties.
My question is this. Have other scanner users noted that subsequent drivers
reduce the function set? I don't think it fair to be forced to buy a new
scanner each time the operating system changes. Who can recommend a good
company in this regard?
