Hello folks,
We decided to do inhouse scanning last fall for the Photoshare
collection (www.jhuccp.org/mmc/photoshare). However, we did not have a
say in purchasing the scanning equipment. Our network administrators
gave us HP scanners (6390C and Photosmart S20). We have had bad results
(particularly with the flatbed 6390c), but it has been difficult
persuading them that we need better equipment. I have never heard any of
you out there talk about using HP scanners. Can you share your honest
opinion about hp scanners if you have one?
Also, it's not clear to me what we can afford, but if you could only
spend $1500 on a flatbed scanner, what would you buy?
(btw, 90% of what we scan is amateur prints, mostly 4x6in. We use PCs,
we're on a LAN, and the workstations run windows nt)
Thanks very much,
Lavina Velasco, Photoshare Librarian
