According to Owen: . . >One more voice in the microfilm/data for 500 years. Bits and bytes 50 years . >from now? ever try to find an 8" floppy drive? Lose the right bit or two, and . >the whole file is unreadable - a bit of microfilm "measles" and you still . >can read the image. I think 50 years from now we'll still be converting . >information from microfilm for access; still filming for _preservation_ . > . >Bob Henneberger INTERNET:mailto:bhennebe@uga.cc.uga.edu . >Computer Services WWW:scarlett.libs.uga.edu . >Preservation services Compu$erv:73727,2615 . >University of Georgia Libaries Voice: 706-542-2131 . >Athens, GA 30602 FAX: 706-542-4144 . . . Microfile vs Electronic imaging: This is beginning to sound like . . MAC vs PC, Ford vs Chevy, etc etc. Lets just do it the way it . fits best for each of us, and in 500 years we can see who was right. No, it does not sound like that. There are distinct rationales for microfilming--retaining the analog data--set against digitizing. Please don't trivialize it.
