Perhaps this explanation will help.

I think your request is more suited towards posting on a group like DRA-L, the digital resources association list. When I was monitoring that list to see what sorts of questions were posted, requests for finding particular images were what I read. Of course, they were asking for images of art works, not assault rifles. Some subscribers on this list might have mistaken your request as the frivilous request by a gun freak. It's easy to misjudge postings on e-mail. There's also well over 1,000 subscribers on this list and any of us could overreact to a message at any given time. There are, on occasion, senseless postings by persons whose only interest is to inflame others. I think that given those circumstances, fueled by the Oklahoma City bombing and the polarized views many of us hold regarding assault weapons--on both sides--your message was misunderstood. Don't take it personally--just try to find a more suitable listserv to meet you needs.

IMAGELIB meets other needs, such as the issues around doing imaging. You might have noticed a "typical" IMAGELIB discussion on microfilm the past week, others on types of scanners, others on resolution, others on .gif v. .jpg, ...

Maybe this is a good time to re-send the bi-monthly "about Imagelib" message.
