University Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive

University of California at Berkeley

The Pacific Film Archive Library houses collections of books, periodicals, photographs, posters, and clipping files, as well as over 7,000 films and videotapes. All collections are available for on-site research use. In addition to ongoing film and book cataloging, PFA is creating a digital image database of documents held in its clippings files.

Duties: The Cataloger and Indexer is responsible for original and copy cataloging of books, films and videotapes in Pacific Film Archive's collection in MARC format following AACR2 and Archival Moving Image Materials (AMIM). As senior Indexer on PFA's Film Document Imaging Project, performs subject, genre and name indexing for documents. Does name and series authority searches and assigns subject headings for books, films, and documents; supervises imaging project team in scanning and indexing documents and student employees in processing cataloged books. Enhances minimal-level film catalog records from paper documentation; views films, writes summary notes, and records print information for full-level original film cataloging.

Qualifications: Experience in full-level original and copy cataloging in MARC book and VM formats; knowledge of AACR2 and AMIM, name authority work, and using on-line bibliographic utilities. Familiarity with handling film and film viewing equipment and knowledge of cinema history. Familiarity with document indexing and imaging a plus.

Salary: $2360 - $2830 (full-time monthly rate), with excellent benefits. This is a 75 - 100% variable, 1 year position with possibility of extension.
