To add to the fray, I'v had very good results using Videssence Fluorescent
lights for a Dicomed scanback.  Not only do they solve the heat problem
(which in a Minnesota winter could curl wet lasagna), but I had fewer
problems with uneven light and "hotspots."  The color shift is within
acceptable limits, using the Dicomed daylight filter.  The lights are about
$2,200 bucks, but that is cheap compared to some of the items being copied.
