There was an article recently in Macworld magazine - I believe it was the April issue, but I can't find my copy at the m
ment. The article said that CRTs are still better for graphics applications than flat monitors. The problem with flat
onitors is that as you move, the colors in an image appear to change. The article looked at monitors that can be calibr
ted with hardware or software, and the best monitor in terms of quality was a Barco monitor, listed at $3,499. I wish I
could find the article - it reviewed 5 or 6 monitors (3 flat panels and 2 or 3 CRTs) and ranked them. I haven't receive
Macworld since I read the article, so it may be the one available on news stands now. Macworld is also available onlin
at www.macworld.com. There are several reviews of monitors and calibrating equipment of various brands.

Seeing Burt's question on calibration using the Kodak Q-60 target (sorry
Burt, can't help with your question regarding using it to calibrate an HP
scanner) brought up a question which I have been pondering for a while.
For space saving reasons, I would like to move to a flat panel monitor. I
am about to take part in a QA/QC process for an photograph digitization
project that I am involved in and I also work quite frequently with
Photoshop in retouching images, so I need a monitor that can be calibrated
and that is suitable for image editing work.
I am interested in hearing about your experiences with a flat panel monitor
and whether you would recommend moving from a CRT monitor to one. If so,
brand/mode recommendations would be great.
How do flat panel monitors compare with CRT's for viewing/evaluating images
in terms of image quality, resolution etc?
Finally, do most standard calibration programs work with flat panel
displays?
Thanks for your help. I will summarize responses for the list.
