One solution is to mount the negatives onto a colour balanced light box and
use a digital camera I would suggest one of the scanning backs such as Phase
one or Better light on a 5 X 4 inch camera. This enables you to capture the
image in a single pass and also have a very large file to work with in
Photoshop. We have done this with both black and white panorama negs and
large X-rays of paintings. Our light box is 8 ft X 5 ft. It is important to
mask the area around the negative to prevent flare back into the lens Using
fluorescent lighting the neg does not get to hot and pop during the
exposure. Alternatively tape the neg to a sheet of Opal acrylic and
backlight it with a light source that suits the digital camera you may have
access to.
