Neil - What kind of thesaurus are you looking for.  There are two that
I would recommend. The Art and Architecture Thesaurus published by the
Getty.  and for iconography I would recommend the expanded version of
Ikonclass published in the the Netherlands and available on disc,
possibly on line for Leiden University.
