1) A good overview of image sites is compiled in the WWW site, http://abelard.mit.edu/iciw.html
2) I'm not sure of the Smithsonian Internet/WWW site, but I know they do have a major presence on America Online. This may be of interest to educators in that AOL is not an internet service, but a dial-up, home-oriented service, so students may have access through their homes, whereas internet access is probably limited to the school/college campus.
