Subject: Buddhist images

Michel Clasquin inquired about clipart with religious themes. I can't help very much with biblical subjects, although I know a lot of it is available--I have seen a good deal of it listed in catalogs from companies like Software Labs that specialize in retailing public domain software.

As for Buddhist images, I know of several possibilities. The Tiger Team Buddhist Information Network (Berkeley California) has a dial-up bulletin board with lots of clip art. Their number is 510-268-0102. For information e-mail to mailto:info@tigerteam.org. I have downloaded a number of their images. They have a good selection, but the resolution of many of them may not be high enough for your purposes.

There are also a number of other possibilities that I have not tried. One of the most promising seems to be an FTP archive called Buddhist Image Bank at University of North Carolina. FTP to Sunsite.unc.edu and go to directory pub/academic/religious_studies/Buddhism/Tantric_Studies/Iconography. This and a number of other sites that carry Buddhist art are listed in the usful Buddhist Electronic Resources Directory (B.E.R.D.), which is available from a sub-directory coombspapers via FTP or COOMBSQUEST gopher on the node COOMBS.ANU.EDU.AU and from the UMichigan Clearinghouse at una.hh.lib.umich.edu.
