All I can say to you, Ann, is that you must have really run into some lemon
librarians...do not judge a profession by the few bad apples that exist in
every bunch...most of the librarians I have had the pleasure of knowing and/or
dealing with are excellent workers (and that includes those in public,
academic, and special libraries).

What are we supposed to do with "bad" librarians? I don't know (oh, great, here goes another discussion), but I don't think the answer is to replace them with untrained volunteers...actually, the more I think about that one, the more I get scared for my profession...(yeah, that's IT! that's the ticket! Let's replace all librarians with untrained, part-time volunteers! What a great idea! While we're at it, let's replace a l ather professionals with untrained volunteers as well...could do wonders...save tons of money on salaries and benefits...)

Maybe this discussion should be dropped. I'm getting silly.
