I think that this thread has gone on too long. The above message is unfortunately mean-spirited. I cannot speak for other Library &Information Science schools, however, the classes that I attend stress the importance of service to the patrons. That A. Morton was pleased with part-time volunteers at least speaks very well for whomever trained them, which was probably the librarian.
