I'd second this -- we've been using a 2000 x 3000 pixel digital camera for a while now and are about to start using a pair of 5000 x 7000 pixel cameras to capture 125,000 rare books pages (24-bit colour tiff files archived offline, with jpeg derivatives for daily use).
