While I've no problem with the general "Quality" of the Nikon scanner, using it in its "Auto-Feed" mode does sometime prove troublesome...
Depending upon the image you're scanning, if the scanner cannot locate something of sufficient contrast to focus upon (in its default - read center of the image - position) it will balk...
Generally this isn't too much of a problem with normal subject matter. But if you stick in a slide with clear blue sky (or something similar) in the dead center of the image the automation will cease and you'll be prompted to find an area to focus on.
