Greetings IMAGELIB participants:
In response to the message posted by Susan Grupe regarding
information concerning new copyright statutes and the Internet,
IMAGELIB readers should know that the Working Group on
Intellectual Property Rights, chair Bruce Lehman, U.S. Patent
& Trademark Office, Department of Commerce, has published a
draft document with recommended changes to copyright law
which will certainly affect Internet transmissions. In
September, public hearings for comment on this document
were held in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. I
presented a statement on behalf of the Visual Resources
Association at the Washington, D.C. Public Hearings. I
also participated in the first of a series of meetings
scheduled on Fair Use in the context of the National
Information Infrastructure. The comment period for
comments regarding the Working Group's draft document
has been extended to Oct. 21. If you are interested,

a copy of the draft document. In a separate message I
will post the statement which I presented at the Public
Hearings in Washington, D.C.
