That was then, this is now; seems the suggested use that prompted this discussion -- making the scanned images available globally on a WWW server -- is *not* exactly what fair use covers (especially with the Internet heading toward greater commercialization). That's an awful big gray area right now. Making visuals for local classroom use and distributing across the globe are magnitudes apart, seems to me. I'd surely think twice about putting any potentially copyrighted materials out on the Net.
