We have both the Kodak RFS 2035 Plus and an older Nikon LS3500 slide scanner. The newer RFS Plus is very fast and the latest plug-in acquire module for PhotoShop is easy to use and fairly flexible. The resolution goes up to 2048x3072 which is higher than needed for almost any on-screen viewing unless you're zooming in to the image and fine for almost any screen printing application. We find it excellent for output to 35mm slides as well. For high volume scanning Maron Corporation makes an automated stack loader for the Kodak and Nikon LS model scanners (not the cool scan). This device allows unattended scanning of up to 300 slides at a user selectable resolution, allows sharpening during the scanning process, and supports multiple file output types. You give the first slide a base file name and it saves all slides from that session as slide001, slide002, slide003, etc.
The Nikon Cool scan is very slow, lower resolution and somewhat fragile I understand.
The new Polaroid scanner is less expensive than the Kodak RFS and almost as fast. No stack loader is available for it. I have heard that the quality is not as good as the Kodak RFS.
