The Research Libraries Group is seeking a special individual to
direct a new program area of vital importance to the RLG consortium.
The Member Services Officer for Digital Access Initiatives will take
a leadership role in working with member institutions to define,
shape, coordinate, and promote digital imaging and electronic access
projects and direct the organization's growing digital program.

Duties Include:

Convene member advisors to develop an agenda of projects and initiatives that respond to member interests and needs in providing networked, electronic access to information.

Followup on RLG events (the RLG Symposium on Electronic Access to Information and the Digital Imaging Technology for Preservation Symposium, as well as the forthcoming Digital Image Access Project Workshop and the Digital Preservation Training Series), as indicated by reports and recommendations from those events.

Plan, design, and implement cooperative projects in collaboration with RLG members, other national and international experts, and RLG staff; anticipate future projects and activities.

Develop funding strategies and grant proposals for digital capture and electronic access projects.

Initiate and advise on RLG publications and training events relating to digital access; represent RLG on program issues and activities by presenting papers, speaking at national conferences, and writing journal articles.

Advocate program needs and priorities within RLG; resolve problems and provide information on trends and issues relating to digital access. Develop strategies for expanding program participation and for evolving the program agenda to meet the needs of participants.

<.b+>Qualifications<.b->

MLS and/or advanced degree in an academic discipline and professional experience in a research library usually assoc with 8 years or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience and expertise in providing electronic access to information and managing collaborative projects.

Demonstrated working knowledge of text encoding or other electronic access projects.

Demonstrated experience with system design and implementation.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to represent the consortium effectively in a leadership role at the national level.

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of a wide range of programs and projects at the institutional and network level; think both creatively and strategically, to conceptualize and solve problems; administer programs and activities involving geographically dispersed individuals and constituencies.

Willingness to travel approximately 20-25 days a year.
