I guess the first question is what is your web server? Since you make reference to HyperCard as a db source, I assume you are using or plan a Macintosh server, presumable with WebStar software http://www.starnine.com/ This is a very effective program and like most Macintosh programs, you can tie-in other software applications called cgi's or agci's (common gateway interface or asyncronous gateway interface). These will let you call an external program; your clients on the Web can send search criteria to the external program to complete a search. You might want to use FileMaker Pro from Claris or Butler from Everyware (http://www.everyware.com) as your DB engine.
