Marlene, Adagilson BB Silva and others,
I'm replying to the list because maybe others would be interested in Edibase:
Edibase for DOS was the database used at Concordia during my tenure as
Slide Librarian. Since the Y2K switch to Macintosh OS the database in the
CUFFASL has been FMP. Janice Anderson (mailto:Janicea@vax2.concordia.ca) is the
person to ask about that.
For my part in my role in Charge of the Research Collections I mounted
thousands of entries from Edibase online - you can view the results at
http://collections.concordia.ca/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/sldb/edbnet.pl. (The images
were scanned on a Mac and uploaded from CDs.) I am presently trying to get
a handle on FMP, ACCESS and on the lastest version of Edibase for Windows.
It is perhaps worth noting that Edibase was created and developed by
librarians for libraries. The bilingual database is used extensively in
Quebec libraries.
An English summary about mailto:Edib@se.net from 1998 is on the CUFFASL Research
Collections homepage. Click on "Documensa" at
http://collections.concordia.ca/.
See http://www.visardsolutions.com/Francais/produits.html for the most
recent info - in French. Visard Solutions/Documensa does have documentation
in English off line and their staff is fluent in English.
Sorry I can't tell you if they speak Spanish at Visard/Documensa or can
customize the bilingual French English database into Spanish, Portuguese,
Hebrew etc. It would be worth finding out.
Contact them by phone in Montreal at 514-286-9494 or 514-286-9600.
Good luck.
