    David,

We at the State Library of NSW are also using an Agfa DuoScan 2000 XL. We = have principally used it for reflective scanning which it does very well. = We use Silverfast Ai V5 as the scanning interface and have had excellent = results using both single and batch scanning modes.

I have also been unsure what to make of its scanning performance from = transparencies. We have not scanned from 35mm on it - we have dedicated = 35mm (and large format) film scanners - but on the occasions when we have = scanned large format (5x4" CTs) I have felt that it was just at the lower = end of acceptable - even when using the designated High Resolution area. = Likewise for medium formats - 6x7cm and 6x4.5cm=20 I think if we tried 35mm it would not be up to the job for the archival = masters and maybe just good enough for web quality. I have trialled scanning from large 10x8" glass plate negs on the = transparency tray and the result was good - this is more than likely a = result of the large size of the original, rather than the scanner's own = capability.

I am unaware of any software upgrades for the scanner.
