    WRLC is a regional library consortium which operates a shared digital library system for seven universities in the Washington, D.C. area: American, Catholic, Gallaudet, George Mason, George Washington, Marymount and the University of D.C. See our website at: http://www.wrlc.org.

    WRLC has been awarded a National Leadership Grant by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to develop a model collaborative digital collections production center (DCPC) to promote the creation of local digital collections through a shared conversion facility. The DCPC Manager will work with the participating libraries to orient library staff to the WRLC digital library technologies and identify appropriate collections, recommend guidelines for metadata and scanning specifications, establish conversion schedules, and oversee the digital conversion process at the WRLC facility. S/he will coordinate with WRLC's information technology staff and will supervise a metadata indexer and a scanning technician. The DCPC Manager will also document standards, guidelines, recommendations, and examples for the DCPC Guidebook, to provide planning information for subsequent digitizing projects.

    Note: This is a two-year grant-funded position, with the possibility of extension.

    Qualifications: Familiarity with digital library technologies (e.g. image file formats, XML,HTML), scanning techniques, and metadata standards (e.g. Dublin Core, EAD) is required. Good written and oral communication skills. Experience managing digital conversion projects in a library or archive environment is highly desirable. Salary negotiable and competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
