The KU Libraries are accepting applications for the position of Metadata

The Metadata Coordinator participates as a member of the digital library
team and as a member of the Cataloging Department. Analyzes and coordinates
the use of metadata schemes for digital initiatives within the Library and
elsewhere on campus. In addition, the Metadata Coordinator:
·Maintains knowledge of national metadata standards and schema;
·Helps establish and oversee metadata policies for the Libraries and other
campus agencies;
·Participates as a member of the digital library development team, working
closely with the
Director of Digital Libraries to ensure integration of metadata from a
variety of sources into the University's Digital Library;
·Guides the Cataloging Department in the application and use of non-MARC
metadata cataloging standards;
·Works closely with a variety of constituents both within and outside the
library system to determine appropriate metadata schemes and
requirements for various
repositories;
·Provides ongoing metadata coordination, instruction, analysis, promotion,
documentation and other supporting activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS. Three years of academic
library experience. Knowledge of the concepts and applications used in the
standards and practices of organizing information. Knowledge of current
cataloging rules and standards. In addition to MARC, experience with one or
more additional major descriptive metadata standard: EAD, TEI, VRA Core,
Dublin Core, or others. Ability to plan, coordinate and implement projects.
Excellent organization skills with aptitude for complex analytical and
detailed work. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in
a rapidly changing environment. Ability to provide effective individual and
group training. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with the creation and/or management of
digital projects. Familiarity with XML. Supervisory experience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Annual salary is highly competitive and dependent upon
qualifications. Benefits include 22 days vacation and 12 days sick leave
per year; several paid holidays; group health and life insurance options;
choice of four retirement programs; and eligibility to apply for sabbatical
leave.
