ART ON FILE CONTRACT ADVICE.
Art on File n will grant permission for slides to be digitised under the following conditions.

FROM THE MOUTHS OF VENDORS: A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON DIGITAL IMAGING ISSUES
*******************************************************************************
> There will be a unique session presented at the 1996 VRA conference entitled
> *From the Mouths of Vendors: A Roundtable Discussion on Digital Imaging
> Issues*. The session is tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 23,
> 9:00-11:00am.
> What makes this session interesting are its panel members and format. The
> panel members will be vendors who offer digital imaging services or products
> that use digital images. The composition of the panel will be decided by
>the VRA
> membership and Executive Board. The format will have the moderator, Gary

> To make this exercise valuable for VRA members we need everyone to do two

> Vendors can be scanning service providers, collections management

> 2.) Submit Questions. Questions submitted by the VRA membership will be

> How should I proceed with the specific imaging project I am contemplating

> What is Photo-CD and should I use it or TIFF files?
> How would you suggest I store digital images?
> At what resolution should I be scanning?
> How can I plan for changes in technology?
> Why should I pay for your stuff when I have an army of graduate students and
> work study
> students available to me?
> How do I link digital images to my cataloguing information?
> Should I use JPEG compression and if so, how much?

Date: Wed, 30 Aug 1995 13:40:03 -0700 Reply-To: Visual Resources Association <mailto:VRA-L@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU> Sender: Visual Resources Association <mailto:VRA-L@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU> From: Maryly Snow <mailto:slides@CED.BERKELEY.EDU> Subject: Re: 1996 VRA Conference Panel on Digital Imaging To: Multiple recipients of list VRA-L <mailto:VRA-L@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU>
Your proposal overlooks one VERY VALUABLE service that vendors provide. There are slide vendors who permit scanning of their images, either for no fee or a modest fee. These may be providing a MORE valuable service than the other types of vendors, because the results are immediate, at the discretion of the individual slide collection and their faculty. But it does not appear that these would qualify. I would love to see Oliver Radford or Scott Gilchrist talk about why they want to make it easy for slide collections to scan their images, for example.
