As far as I know you have to use the Photoshop plug-in to print on a Mac with the XLS 8300. However, you can print images from other applications that produce Postscript files with a product called Epilogue. It's a Photoshop plug-in module that will RIP any Postscript (PS or EPS) file to a pixel based image format in Photoshop which can then be printed on the 8300.
Although Photoshop has a Postscript interpreter for Illustrator files, it doesn't hold a candle to Epilogue- and of course Epilogue is not limited to just Illustrator files.
Although it's not a driver, it may be a solution if you wish to print other app's files such as Quark, Pagemaker, Freehand, etc.
Hope this helps. E-mail or call me if you have any more questions, I work with these types of printers daily.
