digitized image policies

I would like to know of other institutions who make photographs and other
items available to patrons in digitized formats both as a print out and
as a file on a disk.  What are your policies regarding formats, costs,
etc.?  The Ohio Historical Society is thinking about this as an
alternative to the traditional photo-duplication.  You can respond
directly to me and I will be happy to share the information with the list
if there's interest.
