Jean,

There has been quite a bit of discussion about image database software on this list. I have assumed that much of this was among people who didn't want to go the MARC route. But if you do plan to use MARC, I wonder why you wouldn't use your local OPAC. [If it doesn't now offer Web access (and linking from the 856 field to images), it will soon -- or it will be replaced.] Why buy and learn a new system and require your users to learn yet another system?

Another approach (either interim or long-term) is to put your catalog records into a union catalog, oh say RLIN, and let it point to your photos. RLG is conducting a brief, limited test of its Eureka service on the Web and then will open it to all who subscribe to Eureka files (RLIN and two dozen citation files). We are also testing a service which allows a supplier to recover some costs from allowing others to access their resources and view the documents texts and/or images.
