Have a look at pp 300 and 301 of the Sep 1998 issule of PC Computing.  If you want the dialog boxes to go away there is 
 shareware program called Buzof available from www.pcomputing.com.  There are also some Windows macro programs which may
do the job (EZ Macros and Macro Magic).

Is it possible to automate the embossing action in Photoshop 5 (PC) so
that the dialog boxes don't keep opening?

Apparently there is some shareware called Okey-dokey which gets around
the problem for Mac.
