Folks,
MOREnet is pleased to announce the following changes and improvements
regarding our EBSCO Publishing offering:
1. MOREnet is also pleased to announce that EBSCO's Primary Search (paid
from the DESE and REAL Project budgets), is now available to the entire
MOREnet community. Primary Search was designed for elementary schools and
children's reading rooms, in order to gather information on a wide
range of general topics. The capabilities of Primary Search are:
searchable full text for 33 children's magazines
two World Almanac Books - The World Almanac of the U.S.A. and The
World Almanac for Kids
abstracts and indexing for over 116 titles
EBSCO's Encyclopedia of Animals - a database with over 2,200
entries about mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and
dinosaurs
Funk & Wagnall's new Encyclopedia - a student, home and general
reference
encyclopedia containing 25,000 articles
2. EBSCO Publsihing Databases can now be accessed via the world wide web.
If you are a school district participant in the DESE TNP or a library
district participant in the REAL Project, the URL is
http://ebsco.connect.more.net. All other MOREnet customers (MOREnet
consortium, state agencies, community networks) should use URL:
http://ebsco.more.net.
3. EBSCOadmin has been implemented for those MOREnet members who wish to
use it. The instructions are located at http://www.more.net then select
Database Services, followed by EBSCO Documents. EBSCOadmin offers a number
of capabilities: tailoring your local defaults, adding local holdings, and
collect local usage statistics. If you did not get you location name,
administrator name, and password at the DESE-MOREnet Conference, it will be
sent to you later this week.
4. EBSCO's Serials Directory (similar to Ulrich's) is available as a test
for a few months. MOREnet is not planning to purchase this database;
however, you may wish to purchase this database directly from your EBSCO
sales represntative.
If you have problems accessing EBSCO databases or do not understand
something, please contact the MOREner Reference Desk at refdesk@more.net or
call 800-509-6673 if the problem is time critical.
