Technology Development and Promotions Librarian
The Bernard Becker Library at Washington University School of Medicine in
St. Louis, Missouri, is seeking applications from innovative individuals
for the position of Technology Development and Promotions Librarian. The
position reports to the Associate director for Information Services and
Training.
The Technology Development and Promotions (TDP) Librarian will be part of a
team of Information Services Librarians with the specific responsibility
for creating effective on-line resources on the WWW for the on-going
education and training of faculty, staff, and students in the use of
electronic biomedical information. The TDP librarian will assist clients
with their telecommunications to library products, database searching,
personal database building, information retrieval, genetic database
searching, and file management needs. The TDP will assist with the
planning for and implementation of new Library products, programs, and
services. The TDP will instruct library clients in the use of library
services utilizing web-based technologies, multimedia presentations and
on-line communication including computer-based course development and
face-to-face teaching. The successful candidate will investigate trends
and new technologies related to information services and training programs
for the Washington University communities (medical school and medical
center) and will provide leadership in evaluating and adopting new
technologies and products. This position spans departmental boundaries
(both within and outside of the library) and the incumbent must demonstrate
the flexibility to work with a variety of clinical, basic science, and
administrative personnel as well as the ability to function effectively as
a Library team member. The TDP will assist at the reference desk and with
electronic collection development.
Requirements: Masters degree in library or information science from an
ALA-accredited school, or equivalent education and experience, and a
minimum of three years experience in an academic or corporate science
environment, preferably in the health sciences. Experience with hardware
and software issues relating to user access to information and a basic
knowledge of computer networks and Internet applications including email,
Internet browsers, readers, and plug-in modules. Excellent written and oral
communication skills as well as experience making presentations. Basic knowledge
of and proficiency in web authoring and design. The individual must demonstrate
superior interpersonal and communication skills, excellent technical background
including a record of microcomputer expertise and database search and management
skills. The incumbent must also exhibit a commit-ment to, and experience with,
providing excellent public service.
Appointment will be to the Librarian rank (salary from $33,000.00--$50,000) with
a generous benefits package. Preference is given to applications received prior
