Temporary Librarian/Library Technician
The U.S. Courts Library in St. Louis is the headquarters of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals Library System, with branches in 8 other cities. The libraries serve all federal judges in a 7-state area. The library is scheduled to move to a new building in 2000. The temporary librarian or library technician will perform varied professional and paraprofessional duties in both public and technical services, including filling in for reference librarian on medical leave, and assisting with projects relating to the move and with implementation of an automated serials system.
Representative duties:
Reference, including computer reference using Internet, Westlaw, Lexis
Collection development, including book selection and weeding
Data entry for implementation of automated serials system
Preparation of bindery shipments
Call number labeling
Measurement of shelf space requirements, assistance with move-related projects
Requirements:
M.L.S. or B.A.
Library experience
Computer skills
Attention to detail
Ability to handle varied duties
Preferred qualifications:
Law library experience, especially legal reference experience
Westlaw, Lexis, Internet knowledge and skill
Experience with automated serials system
Salary:
Dependent on qualifications and placement as librarian or technician
Availability:
Position available approximately May, 1999
Duration:
Up to 12 months (October through April subject to availability of funding)
