I posted this message to AUTOCAT last month, but I only got three responses so I'm throwing it open to WebCat in the hope of getting a few more opinions. Please excuse any duplication: I have created a small prototype catalog based on manifestations concept. The super records for voluminous works are a solution to the question of online retrieval and display of works appearing in different manifestations and formats. The concept of super records also helps resolve the question as to whether, for bibliographic entities, the 'work' or the 'item' should be the basis for description ( and cosequently the controvesy between the finding function and the collocating function of the catalog). I would appreciate it if any one of you could have a look at the catalog and send your comments on the implications of such a catalog for cataloging standards directly to me.
