1. LIBIS-Net catalogue via Z39.50


In co-operation with ELiAS n.v. LIBIS-Net has developed software that
provides access to DOBIS/LIBIS catalogues using the Z39.50 protocol. This
way DOBIS/LIBIS participates in the trend already set by other library
systems (Geac, NOTIS, VTLS, ...), shared catalogues (OCLC, CARL, RLG, ...)
and database providers (Dialog, ...).


host: cc2.kuleuven.ac.be, port: 3000, database: xxdefault.


LIBIS-Net implemented Z39.50 version 2.
Compliance to the protocol for following services
- receive initRequest APDUs
- send initResponse APDUs
- receive searchRequest APDUs
- send searchResponse APDUs
- receive presentRequest APDUs
- send presentResponse APDUs


Record syntax is USMARC.


Attribute set : BIB-1. Supported attributes being :


 1. Use attribute:


    Title                   4
    ISBN                    7 (also includes ISSN)
    Subject heading        21
    MESH subject           25
    LC subject heading     27
    Local subject index    29
    Name                 1002
    Any                  1016 (any of the above except ISBN/ISSN)


 2. Relation attribute:
    Equal                   3


 3. Position attribute:
    Any position if field   3


 4. Structure attribute:
    Phrase                  1


 5. Truncation attribute:
    Right truncation        1


 6. Completeness attribute:
    Incomplete subfield     1


 Remark: certain other attribute values are accepted as well, but they
 are all considered equivalent to one of the above.  For example,
 use attribute 1003 (author) could be used instead of 1002 (Name).


2. LIBIS-Net catalogue via WWW-Z39.50 gateway


Besides the straight Z39.50 V2 access to the catalogue, LIBIS-Net developed
a WWW to Z39.50 gateway enhancing CNIDR software. Courtesy to the
Clearinghouse for Networked Information Discovery and Retrieval.
The gateway (and other access possiblities) can be found at :

The gateway is still a work in progress.
Z39.50 target library systems in Europe that are interested in being
accessible via our gateway are invited to provide their parameters and
supported bib1 attributes.
