POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT [new position]:

DEPUTY NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR Network Services Division County of Morris, New Jersey

In late 1995, the Freeholders of the County of Morris, NJ, created the Network Services Division to administer and operate the Morris Automated Information Network (M.A.I.N.), comprised of 30 municipal libraries, the Morris County Library and the County College of Morris Library. M.A.I.N. provides flexible access to the libraries' union catalog, access to several UMI databases, access to the MOREnet gopher, and lynx access to the Internet from library terminals, via dial-up and via telnet. In 1996, the Network will add its first extra-County member.

Description of Duties: The Deputy, reporting to the Network Administrator, will (1) assist in managing implementation projects; (2) evaluate database maintenance and cataloging workflow, practices, costs; (3) assume primary responsibility for assimilating and evaluating DRA application modules, particularly as DRA launches the client/server product; (4) manage the evolution of the MOREnet gopher into a M.A.I.N. web site.

Requirements: ALA-accredited Masters degree. Minimum 2 years' experience supporting library automation applications in a large public library or library consortium. Experience conducting requirements analyses and writing specifications for automation-related services. Minimum 1 year experience in cataloging using an automated system. Experience launching and supporting Internet client software/utilities. Excellent electronic and verbal communications skills, for interactions both with co-workers and with user constituency. Demonstrated excellence and commitment to customer service.

Highly Desirable: Hands-on experience in one or more of the following: DRA, DEC OpenVMS and DCL, formal project management, structured systems analysis, general database creation/publishing/management, TCP/IP.
