Tony-You might check out the MARC documentation for 856|3 (Materials specified) which was created just for such purposes. This subfield displays a note, and can be used for things like documentation services, which would also be annotated in 556. The |u, linking to the documentation, would also still be clickable if your OPAC enabled this functionality. We regularly use the 556/856|3 combination for indexes, table of contents services, concordances, and the like.
