We have started to use Java applets to enhance the capabilities of our OPAC
and related literature information systems. We have implemented a JAVA applet
to handle copy requests. The applet checks the patron in the library system
patron database and decides to which library (we have about 80 connected) the
request wil be directed. Finally it will write the request to the database.
At the moment we are working on an applet that will enable the user who has
found an article in an Online bibliography (we use Silerplatter's ERL for
bibliographies on CDROM) to get the full document. The applet will have to
check if it is an Online resource (we have all Elsevier subscriptions
available online) and if not, it has to check the catalogue for the journal
(or book) and enable the user to use the Online ordering applet.

Peter
